No, we’re not dead. We’re still kicking. Our bad for the lack of posts recently, but things have been kinda of chaotic as the blog gets a little makeover. Things should back to their normal, smooth level of operation in the near future (hopefully). Since you’re here, dig into some of the tracks for the twenty third edition of #FreshFridays.
So the epic three day Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival ends tonight with a huge lineup of diversely talented musicians. Lucky for us, the good folks at Coachella have been doing live broadcasts of their three main stages, Coachella Stage, Outdoor Theatre and Gobi. The coverage of all musical events can be seen here,Coachella
Here are the set times for tonight’s performances,
The sets that I’m most looking forward to watching are the following;
Caspa- 3:00 – 4:00 on Sahara stage (unfortunately not covered through YouTube)
Wiz Khalifa – 6:45 – 7:35 on Coachella Stage (keep an eye on this stage for the night)
or alternatively,
City & Colour - 6:35 – 7:25 on Outdoor Theatre (Gord Downie played earlier on the same stage, I bet they’ll collaborate on this one),
I’ve been away from the internet way too long to even fathom catching up on everything that happened. The weekend was eventful for myself but I still got around to posting #FreshFridays and a review on Jay Electronica’s concert in Toronto. The week ahead is full of so much promise I can hardly breath just thinking about. Lots of original content on the horizon along with March Madness, St. Patrick’s Day and possibly attending a Laidback Luke concert. Shit’s looking trill. And make sure to join the Tournament Challenge group I made over at ESPN so I can run show. Okay below is a bunch of things that materialized over the last few days, the weekend was good for music.
Sir Michael Rocks (of The Cool Kids) drops The Rocks Report mixtape
A rough draft of the remix for ‘All Of The Lights’ surfaced with Lil Wayne, Drake, and Big Sean adding verses. I’m going to wait for the final version, which has a bigger lineup, before posting.
Haven’t had a listen to the tape yet, but the tracklist is leaving an impression on me. The only main feature is Wiz, but the production team on this is legit with credits to the likes of Chuck Inglish, Just Blaze, and Khyrsis. Should be a solid listen, so fire up the download via the link below.
Out of nowhere, Wiz drops this mixtape. Nine tracks, guest spots from Big Sean, Juicy J, Chevy Woods and Trae Tha Truth. Download and track list on the other side.
Offered below is a taste off of Love Thy Brother’s upcoming mixtape. The duo take Wiz’s track and add some classical elements, while upping the track to a more electronically driven sound. I’m feeling it like chocolate syrup on a Playboy bunny. Listen below and check back for their upcoming mixtape.
Awesome lineup of tracks that have been released over the last day or two. Pac Div previews another track off their upcoming Mania! mixtape. Co$$ storytells over a sexy instrumental on “Through The Flames” featuring Blu. An old Wiz Khalifa track with a new twist in 2005′s “Pittsburgh Sound” remixed into “We Drift Deeper”.
The gem of the post though goes to Gorilla Warfare Tactics and their “Temptations” single, sweet sweet Motown (Absinthe anyone?). Gorilla Warfare Tactics is composed of Kid Dilla on the mic and CakexCrumbs Productions on the beat. Haven’t heard much about these guys before, but they just put themselves on my radar. Great sampling, solid rhymes, and some pop cult shoutouts. Honestly, just have a listen and you’ll get what I’m saying.
Wasn’t really feeling posting this just cause I feel like we’re all getting bombarded with Wiz of late. But meh, here we are. Unfinished track from Wiz, nothing crazy. Also, Wiz and Snoop Dogg’s video for “That Good” was released tonight. Crazy day folks. Download and video after the jump.
Wiz let’s loose this new track, with Stargate on the production. Although most of Wiz Khalifa’s songs deal with herbal, I give him credit for building a large cross-cultural appeal. Last year he took the game by storm, amassing a huge following that had everyone and their neighbour’s grandmother chanting the hometown colours. I expect his debut album this year to be a hit, with Wiz staying with what’s worked so far. We’ll really discover the kid’s true talent post-debut, as he’s surely to try his hand at some different things.
