From one of the year’s more polished releases in Elzhi’s Elmatic, here’s the video interpretation for the track ‘Memory Lane’. The Illmatic-rework hit all the right buttons and was a high powered showcase of the Detroit MC’s lyrical ability. If I were to make one of those end of the year, Top 2011 list thingies, Elmatic would undoubtedly have a spot.

Follow @spcpckPresented by Hyundai Veloster, RE:GENERATION is a documentary film that follows DJ Premier, Pretty Lights, The Crystal Method, Mark Ronson, and Skrillex as they remix, recreate and re-imagine five traditional styles of music.

Elzhi brings his version of ‘It Aint Hard To Tell’ to the screen through the lens of Detroit’s urban landscape. Really can’t say enough about this dude and Elmatic, shit’s off the charts.

Elzhi pays homage to Nas’ Illmatic with his own take on tracks such as ‘N.Y. State Of Mind’, ‘The World Is Yours’, and ‘One Love’. The Detroit emcee does the original justice, putting his own spin on tracks while still maintaining that tried and true East Coast flavour. Listen in below.
1. The Genesis
2. Detroit State of Mind (Houseshoes Shout)
3. Halftime
4. Memory Lane
5. The World Is Yours
6. Represent
7. Life’s A Bitch feat. Royce da 5’9 and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition

This week I bring you songs produced by raps finest DJ that’ll make you say WOOORRRD. I introduce you to DJ Premier (I probably don’t have to introduce you, and if I do, than get to listening!)
DJ Premier has produced for some of rap and hip hops biggest names; Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z, Big L to name a few. However, I feel as if his better stuff comes from songs he produced for his underground/lesser known artists; Afu-Ra, Jeru the Damaja and Royce da 5’9 to name a few more.
Representing Brooklyn (but born in Houston), Premo is well known for his beats that infuse vocals from various songs in order to create verses, instrumentals from older jazz, funk and soul artists, and even artist’s past works in their new tracks. I don’t think he needs any further introduction.

First artist I present you is Jeru the Damaja, also from Brooklyn (this ares spits out some damn fine artists) . A lot of his stuff is produced by DJ Premier, such as his entire Wrath of Math CD. This stuff is GANGSTAAA.

Next up is Blaq Poet from Queensbridge. Signing onto DJ Premier’s record label Year Round Records, this dude doesn’t say it, he sprays it.
Okay so switching it out of underground into the illmatic flow of Nas. Everyone knows this song, but I bet you didn’t know it was produced by DJ Premier.
Next we have, from Detroit, Royce da 5’9″. I hear him and Eminem are getting back together for another Bad Meets Evil CD. Not a huge fan of Eminem, but we’ll see how Royce does on that one.

Finally we’ve got New York’s Afu-Ra…Check out those dreads! This guys rapped for some big names, including the RZA, GZA, Masta Killa, Gang starr and M.O.P… Check him out.
I’ll be hooking it up big next week with some dubstep and rap remixes (Maybe..you’ll have to come see and find out!!)
I’ll leave you with a little ODB remix Premier did. This cookie tastes NICE.
WOORRRRRRD
