Alright so I have a bit of a confession to make. Today I bought my first album in a long, long time. How long? Let’s put it this way, the last CD I purchased was Sum 41′s Does This Look Infected? For those of you that know the album (and it’s a beauty), that thing was released  during the awkward formative years of middle school…..well for me at least. I try to support the artists best I can by going to their shows and buying their merch, but that can only go so far. So I made a promise to myself to buy more albums. CDs? Fuck no, it’s time to invest and restock the old music library with some vinyl! Not only does vinyl sound awesome, it will make your place look distinguished. Now all you need is that smell of rich mahogany and a warm glass of brandy to complete the swag.

Anyways enough of that, the reason you’re reading this is obviously because you’re a fiend for the Thrashing Thursdays! I’ve noticed that all previous Thrashing Thursday posts have focused primarily on blast off dubstep bangers. So I woke up today and was like “yo let’s stretch our wings on this and try some different genres with equal Thrashibility”. And then I was like “what constitutes Thrashibility”? First thing that came to mind was what’s the one artist you would most like to have play at your house party? After purchasing my first album in years today, the answer became obvious.

Beastie Boys! Mike D, King Ad-Rock and MCA are back with a few friends and the fantastic new album Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 (released May 3rd). The album has been repeatedly featured over Spacepack the past few weeks (here & here). The album was streamed a few weeks ago and it was so good that I felt obliged to buy it. The boys are back and they bring with them the same abrasiveness energy and utter disregard for silence that rocked house parties since 1980′s.

Don’t call it a come back, say welcome back! Here are a few tracks from their new album that are sure to blow the lid off any Popsicle stand,

Beastie Boys – Lee Majors Come Again (hear the songs by left clicking the download link, download by right-clicking)

Download (Love the false-start and record skip at 2:43)

Beastie Boys – Too Many Rappers f/ NaS [New Reactionaries Version]

Download (Great new version of an original song)

Beastie Boys – Don’t Play No Game f/ Santigold

Download (Carribean themed bash!)

And of course the Blast Off Banger,

Alex Metric – Sabotage (Beastie Boys Re-Edit)

Enjoy

Do these guys look familiar? Hint: They’re not the real Beastie Boys

So those dastardly Beastie Boys are at it again. Directed by Adam Yauch (or MCA), the boys released a new short film/music video called Fight For Your Right Revisited to help promote their upcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. The film picks up where the Beastie Boys left off in their 1986 music video for Fight For Your Right, but with a few changes in cast. Sorry did I say a few? What I meant to say was THIS FILM HAS MORE CELEBRITY CAMEO APPEARANCES CRAMMED INTO IT’S 30 MINUTES THAN ANY OTHER VIRAL VIDEO OUT THERE (Sorry, but We Are The World couldn’t hold a candle to this one). Need proof? Well how about this all-star line-up of Hollywood’s who’s who;

Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jack Black all play various Beastie Boys of the present and future (don’t worry, this will sort of make sense if you watch the film). Susan Sarandon, Orlando Bloom, Stanley Tucci, Steve Buscemi, Rainn Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, Catherine Keener, Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones all play some ornery old squares. Chloe Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst and Maya Rudolph play some gum-chewing, acid-taking limousine floozies. Oh, and Will Arnett reprises his role as GOB from “Arrested Development” for a few seconds. For more info on the project as well as an interview with Mike D about how this project came together, check this link. Thanks Hulu!

Here’s a hilarious bit of the film to get those juices flowing. The song used in this particular piece is Make Some Noise and will be released on the aforementioned album, Hot Sauce Comittee Part 2 (to be officially released May 3rd). Here’s a stream of the album, but I urge you to follow the try before you buy principle and help support those artists! Stream the album here

And here’s the film in it’s entirety,

Oh those Beastie Boys, staying relevant and fresh even by today’s standards. Gotta love them! And stay tuned into SpacePack as the Beastie Boys will be the focus of this week’s Thrashing Thursday post.

***NOTE***: Ahhhh shhhhiiiiiiiit, Rich is always 2-steps ahead of the music game and has already made a post on this particular Beastie Boys project. However, this movie is so good I think it deserves to be brought to the forefront of our attention once again. I hope you readers don’t mind the re-post

The third single off the forthcoming Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. These guys still drop some decent rhymes considering they pre-date the current generation of hip hoppers. Respect.
