Buddy Holly Tribute Album

Wheeeeew, big news courtesy of SPIN. A whole slew of distinguished artists will be getting together to create a tribute album for Buddy Holly.

Artists contributing covers to this project include The Black Keys, Modest Mouse, Julian Casablancas (of The Strokes) and……. ah hell just read the image above and you’ll get a good idea of what this album is about. Honouring the late great Buddy Holly, who died at 22 in a Minnesota plane crash with the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens on February 3, 1959, aka The Day the Music Died, here’s The Black Keys with their soulful rendition of (Ummm, Oh Yeah) Dearest.

And here’s a wonderful song from the man with glasses so famous, Elton John was wearing glasses “not because he needed them, but in homage to Buddy Holly.”

Rave on Buddy Holly

P.S. I don’t know what it is with talented musicians and plane crashes, but Buddy Holly certainly wasn’t the first. See also Otis Redding, The Bar Kays & Lynyrd Skynyrd. All jokes aside, this is eerily reminiscient of the Spinal Tap curse
