Yeasayer – Odd Blood and Remixes

What do you get when you combine singing through a fan, broken synths and garage band? You get Yeasayer’s sophomore album “Odd Blood”! This far out album is extremely psychedelic and unique which, could initially deter some listeners, however the amiable vocal stylings of singer Chris Keating contrast the extraordinary sounds perfectly. This record has been said to have been inspired by the band’s trip to New Zealand where they experimented with the drug LSD – and it shows. This album is all over the place! They channel influences like David Bowie (on drug fueled tracks like “Mondegreen” and “Grizelda”), all the way to bass driving pop contemporaries like Justin Timberlake. Every song on this album possesses a certain undefinable quality that lends itself to being memorable and different. It is a refreshing listen, no track is the same and every tune is an adventure.

Scores a 9/10.
