THRASHING THURSDAYS – A Tribute to Snatch

Geez, I wonder how many people are going to be clicking on Tribute to Snatch and expecting to see something else. Well if you’re a follower of Thrashing Thursdays you should know by now that we’re not about that smut. We specialize in auditory smut that mucks your senses. So here’s another special edition of Thrashing Thursdays that pays tribute to one of the greatest movies of all time, Snatch.

Snatch was directed by British filmmaker Guy Ritchie and first came out in 2000. For those who haven’t seen the movie, shame on you. Regardless, here’s the essential premise of the film;

Unscrupulous boxing promoters (Jason Statham as Turkish & Stephen Graham as Tommy),

Violent bookmakers (lead by the terrifying Alan Ford as Brick Top),

A Russian gangster (Rade Serbedzija as Boris The Blade),

Incompetent amateur robbers (not to mention bad boy yardies, Tyrone, Sol and Vinny)

and supposedly Jewish jewelers (Benicio del Toro as Frankie Four-Fingers)

fight to track down a priceless stolen diamond (with the help of hired mercenary Bullet Tooth Tony, Vinnie Jones),

While a subplot entwines gypsy boxer Mickey O’Neil (Brad Pitt) into the mix

Snatch is a fantastic gangster movie and very funny too if you can decipher some of the character’s heavy cockney and gypsy accents. Take this classic scene for example,

Guy Ritchie has a great ear for music that compliments the movies roller coaster ride through London’s underground gangster scene. Here are a few of my favorites,

Mirwais – Disco Science

Oasis – Fucking In The Bushes

This is 100% the best scene in the movie! Brad Pitt is so bad ass in this one. It’s also a big turning point in the plot because it’s exactly when the boxing promoters (Turkish and Tommy) are forced into the pocket of  Brit Top (Alan Ford)….. A man that feeds his enemies to his pigs. Yeah, so these two are fucked

The Stranglers – Golden Brown

This movie is so popular that DJs have sampled clips from the movie to use in their songs. Check these two remixes from English dubstep heavyweights that feature clips from the unmistakably thick and always menacing cockney accent of Alan Ford.

Rusko – Cockney Thug

DatsiK & Flux Pavillion – Crunch (Original Mix)

Alright gypsies, that’s your education in pop culture for the day. If you learned nothing from this post at least remember this, your gun says REPLICA on the side whilst mine says DESERT EAGLE 5 POINT 0.

One love
